
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Autumn Elaine Vieira, a 21-year-old Indiana University senior with a vibrant spirit and a passion for justice, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, leaving her family, friends, and the Evansville community in mourning. The North High School graduate, remembered as a creative force and a magnetic social presence, was studying criminal justice and aspired to make a meaningful difference in the world.
Born on June 15, 2004, Autumn was the beloved daughter of Craig and Melissa (Schenk) Vieira. From an early age, she captivated those around her with an outgoing personality and a warmth that made others feel immediately welcomed. Her journey from a spirited North High graduate in 2022 to a dedicated IU senior showcased her determination and ambition.
A Life Defined by Creativity and Compassion
Autumn’s life was a vibrant canvas of self-expression. Friends and family recall her keen eye for style, often showcased through bold makeup, meticulously done nails, and unique thrifted fashion finds. Her creativity extended beyond personal style into gifted drawing and painting, where she found both peace and a powerful mode of expression.
“She saw the world in color and detail that most of us miss,” said a close friend. “Her thrift store finds weren’t just clothes; they were treasures. Her artwork wasn’t just a hobby; it was her soul on paper.”
Her nurturing spirit was most evident in her deep love for her two canine companions, Duke and Brutus, who provided her with constant comfort and joy. This same compassionate nature defined her relationships, making her a cornerstone of her social circles and a devoted family member.
A Social Spirit with a Heart for Justice
Known as the life of the party with an infectious laugh, Autumn had a rare talent for bringing people together. Yet, amidst her social energy, her greatest happiness was found in quieter moments with her close-knit family and lifelong friends.
Her academic path reflected her inner convictions. As a senior studying criminal justice at Indiana University, she approached her studies with a serious determination to contribute to a fairer world. Her passing cuts short a promising journey aimed at turning her compassion into a career.
Family, Services, and Legacy
Autumn is survived by her parents, Craig and Melissa Vieira; her sister, Alyxa Vieira; her brother, Bryce Kravetz; her grandparents, Ron and Ann Vieira; her niece, Annie Jo; her nephew, Xander; and a large, loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dennis and Diana Schenk.
A celebration of Autumn’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Browning Funeral Home in Evansville, with visitation beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Centenary United Methodist Church or It Takes a Village Rescue, reflecting Autumn’s caring spirit.
